Abstract

The Campus Canopy was the student newspaper which began in 1934 at the Georgia State Womens College and continued at Valdosta State College in 1950. In 1970, the paper was renamed The Spectator, as it is known today.

Harry Stillwell Edwards Collection

Mark Martin Collection

Abstract

This collection was found in a wall when a construction worker was tearing some down. He donated the materials to Valdosta State University's Archives. The collection contains African American Newspapers from the 1950s and 60s. Included in these papers are the Newark, NJ Telegram and The Pittsburg Courier: Georgia Edition and one copy of the Georgia-Florida Times. The majority of items come from the late 50s (1958).

Scope and Contents William Dean Mathes [1909-1969], of Morristown, Tennessee, served in World War II, in both the German and Pacific theaters.
